Oxford Gene Technology (OGT), provider of innovative clinical genetics and diagnostic solutions to advance molecular medicine, has today announced a collaborative agreement with Abcodia aimed at improving the early detection of pancreatic cancer.

As part of this collaboration, Abcodia will provide access to its large prospective serum biobank, to harness samples taken from individuals up to 7 years before the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. OGT will apply its functional protein array platform and its Genefficiency™ microRNA profiling array to identify pancreatic cancer specific biomarkers that can be used as diagnostic indicators of developing pancreatic cancer. Both OGT and Abcodia will bring their expertise in experimental design and analysis.

At present, the prognosis for someone diagnosed with pancreatic cancer is poor. The limitations of current diagnostic techniques mean that often the cancer is not detected until after it has spread. The identification of sensitive and specific biomarkers that allow early detection of pancreatic cancer could therefore significantly increase survival rates.

Julie Barnes, the Chief Executive Officer, Abcodia said: "We are very excited to be able to form this strategic partnership with OGT. The combination of the breadth of the OGT technology with our unique serum biobank provides a real opportunity to significantly advance the field of early pancreatic cancer diagnosis and screening."

John Anson, Vice President Biomarker Discovery, OGT commented: "A common challenge in discovering novel cancer biomarkers is the availability of well characterised samples for the disease area of interest. We are delighted that, through our partnership with Abcodia, we are able to employ our unique and integrated genomic and proteomic array technologies to identify sensitive and specific biomarkers for pancreatic cancer."

Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.

To move forward in biomedical research, new technologies are needed to revolutionize the field. One example, microarray analysis, has recently shown promise by offering an opportunity to study protein-protein interactions that may uncover drug targets or provide early disease detection. Unfortunately, the method is not without its flaws.

Get a chance of FREE microarray analysis using 3D-Gene (TM) & a grant of US$ 2,000Deadline: November 30, 2011

Toray Industries, Inc. (TOKYO:3402) announces a competition award for groundbreaking research using 3D-Gene™, DNA microarray. It is donated to encourage further progress and achievements of scientists using DNA microarray technology in their research, leading to publishing papers of superior quality. This year, the award is focusing on the research related to microRNA expression, especially from blood samples or FFPE samples. Get a chance of FREE microarray analysis using 3D-Gene™ & a grant of US$ 2,000!

The award winners will get FREE DNA microarray analyses with 3D-Gene™ matched to each winner's research plan and a research grant of $2,000 especially for the sample preparation.
The award winner would be asked to send their samples to Toray for the analysis. The whole microarray analysis would be conducted by Toray in Japan (basic data analysis is included).

Applications for this award will be accepted until November 30th, 2011.
for details: http://www.3D-Gene.com/en/demo/index.html

What is 3D-Gene™?

3D-Gene™ is a super-sensitive microarray. Toray has succeeded in development of a DNA microarray with high sensitivity, high reproducibility/quantification and high speed. It is based on its unique technologies such as agitation method during hybridization using microbeads, unique surface structure of the microarray and probe spotting technology using nano-level control of molecules.
